How to Fix a Derailleur

Here are the steps you can follow to fix a derailleur that causes the chain to come off:

1. Inspect the derailleur and chain for any damage or wear. If there are any obvious signs of damage, replace the affected parts.
2. Check the derailleur alignment. Use a derailleur alignment tool to ensure that the derailleur is properly aligned with the cassette.
3. Adjust the limit screws. The limit screws control the range of movement of the derailleur. If they are not set correctly, the chain may come off. Adjust the limit screws so that the derailleur cannot move beyond the smallest and largest cog on the cassette.
4. Check the cable tension. If the cable is too loose, the derailleur may not shift properly, causing the chain to come off. Adjust the cable tension so that it is taut, but not too tight.
5. Check the derailleur hanger. If the derailleur hanger is bent or damaged, it can cause the derailleur to be misaligned, resulting in the chain coming off. If the hanger is damaged, replace it.
