Idaho Stop
How does the Idaho Stop work?
Stop as Yield, also known as the “Idaho Stop,” allows cyclists to treat stop lights as stop signs, and stop signs as yield signs. A similar intervention, the Leading Pedestrian Interval, has proven effective in allowing extra time for pedestrians to cross intersections, creating extra space between pedestrians and vehicular traffic at a stop, significantly reducing red light violations, and improving safety for everyone on the road. Stop as Yield has the potential to encourage cycling by making urban travel easier, less taxing, and more efficient.
